East Wittering Community Primary School

Safeguarding

Safeguarding Statement

All children have the right to be protected from harm.

East Wittering Community Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff and volunteers are trained in Child Protection and Safeguarding, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and both staff and volunteers are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

To promote a safe environment for students, East Wittering Community Primary School employs a strict selection and recruitment policy which includes all statutory checks on staff and regular volunteers including Enhanced DBS (disclosure and barring service) checks.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection and safeguarding policy, a copy of which can be found on our website.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.

The West Sussex Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) can be contacted on 01403 229900 or out of hours on 0330 222 6664, email MASH@westsussex.gcsx.gov.uk

We work in partnership with other agencies like the Health Authority, Social Services and the police to identify, assess, and support children who are, or who may be, suffering harm.

Because our first concern must be the well-being of your child, there may be occasions when we have to consult other agencies before we contact you. The procedures we have to follow have been laid down in accordance with the Local Authority Child Protection Procedures.
